Sankarea – I…Succeeded
I…Succeeded’s main focus is what was shown in episode one, it’s mostly the back story on Rea Sanka much like how episode was mostly a back story on Chihiro. I…Succeeded is about Rea’s odd relationship with her dad, or I should say his weird relationship with her is and every year on her birthday shes forced to have her picture taken in the nude by her dad.
It also shows how much of an eye he has on her in her daily life and how anyone that tries to get close to her vanishes or is forced to move away.
After the more than long enough flashback on her life up to this point she gets a plant that she thinks is written on the page of the notebook that is damaged and can’t be read clearly, she takes a bit of it in a vial as Chihiro pours it into the mouth of Babu. What happens next is easy to tell in this episode.
The characters still have not changed, Rea is still feeling back for herself for being born into a rich family. Babu is still dead though I don’t think a cat can be called a character really. Chihiro is still Chihiro, wanting to bring Babu back to life yet seems to be on the edge of having feelings for Rea, as he jokes around with her as shes watching a zombie movie.
I guess Im also getting use to the character design so now that I’m getting more use to that, I hope they can give the characters feelings instead of having voice actors just reading the script.
Animation isn’t better than the first episode but the way it’s presented against higher quailty backgrounds really helps the characters pop out and draw your attention to them. It’s a trick every stuido tries but for some reason in this episode it make the animation look a lot better.
Sound really took a semi dive as most of the sound is the voice acting of Rea which is boring, she juts talks with doom and gloom. I wish there was an actual soundtrack playing during the flashback of her life. There didn’t seem to be any which added to my boredom with the sound and this episode overall.
I…Succeeded is another slow set up episode but sets up the better paced episode 3 with a few reveals in it. There was a lot of factors I didn’t like about this episode the lack of a sound track to play during the long flashback of Rea’s life, the dullness of Rea’s voice because in the flash back it was dull not the Rea that she is around Chihiro as she actually has a hint of emotions once she starts to sorta open up to him.
I sorta wish they left her back story as an OVA cause it was pretty much long enough to be a full length OVA or a special fan-service ONA or so.
